Poke (poh-keh) means “to slice/cut.” The Native Hawaiians first created poke, a Hawaiian dish, by dicing freshly caught fish and seasoning it with whatever was on hand – salt, limu (seaweed), and kukui nuts. Yup, it was that simple.

Yes, it is safe to eat raw fish under certain circumstances.

At Aloha Fresh, we only import fish from Hawaii that was handled safely through a science-based seafood safety system called HAACP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point). We also never treat our fish with carbon monoxide.

Our ahi is FRESH – it’s caught in Hawaii and shipped to California. Our fish is never frozen and never treated with carbon monoxide.
